Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Say you've spent the first 10 years of your life sleeping under the stairs of a family who loathes you. Then, in an absurd, magical twist of fate you find yourself surrounded by wizards, a caged snowy owl, a phoenix-feather wand, and jellybeans that come in every flavor, including strawberry, curry, grass, and sardine. Not only that, but you discover that you are a wizard yourself! This is exactly what happens to young Harry Potter in J.K. Rowling's enchanting, funny debut novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. In the nonmagic human world--the world of "Muggles"--Harry is a nobody, treated like dirt by the aunt and uncle who begrudgingly inherited him when his parents were killed by the evil Voldemort. But in the world of wizards, small, skinny Harry is famous as a survivor of the wizard who tried to kill him. He is left only with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead, curiously refined sensibilities, and a host of mysterious powers to remind him that he's quite, yes, altogether different from his aunt, uncle, and spoiled, piglike cousin Dudley.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Chilling, malevolent voices whisper from the walls only to Harry, and it seems certain that his classmate Draco Malfoy is out to get him. Soon it's not just Harry who is worried about survival, as dreadful things begin to happen at Hogwarts. The mysteriously gleaming, foot-high words on the wall proclaim, "The Chamber of Secrets Has Been Opened. Enemies of the Heir, Beware." But what exactly does it mean? Harry, Hermione, and Ron do everything that is wizardly possible--including risking their own lives--to solve this 50-year-old, seemingly deadly mystery. This deliciously suspenseful novel is every bit as gripping, imaginative, and creepy as the first; familiar student concerns--fierce rivalry, blush-inducing crushes, pedantic professors--seamlessly intertwine with the bizarre, horrific, fantastical, or just plain funny.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
For most children, summer vacation is something to look forward to. But not for our 13-year-old hero, who's forced to spend his summers with an aunt, uncle, and cousin who detest him. The third book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series catapults into action when the young wizard "accidentally" causes the Dursleys' dreadful visitor Aunt Marge to inflate like a monstrous balloon and drift up to the ceiling. Fearing punishment from Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon (and from officials at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who strictly forbid students to cast spells in the nonmagic world of Muggles), Harry lunges out into the darkness with his heavy trunk and his owl Hedwig.

As it turns out, Harry isn't punished at all for his errant wizardry. Instead he is mysteriously rescued from his Muggle neighborhood and whisked off in a triple-decker, violently purple bus to spend the remaining weeks of summer in a friendly inn called the Leaky Cauldron. What Harry has to face as he begins his third year at Hogwarts explains why the officials let him off easily. It seems that Sirius Black--an escaped convict from the prison of Azkaban--is on the loose. Not only that, but he's after Harry Potter. But why? And why do the Dementors, the guards hired to protect him, chill Harry's very heart when others are unaffected?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The book begins describing the eerie happenings at an abandoned house in Little Hagleton. This had been the residence of Tom Riddle and his family, all of whom perished in an inexplicable manner. The house had lain empty for years, cared for by an old gardener, Frank Bryce. On the night in question, Frank, attracted by unusual movement, goes up to the house to check what is happening. Here he stumbles across a strange conversation between a short, bald, beak-nosed man named Wormtail and Lord Voldemort. These two men are accompanied by a huge evil looking snake, Nagini. They speak of the murder of one called Bertha Jorkins and the planned murder of Harry Potter. Caught in the act of eavesdropping, Frank is struck down dead.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry has spent a lonely summer with the Dursleys, starved for information in the wake of Voldemort's return. Harry and his cousin Dudley are attacked by dementors while walking around his neighborhood, but Harry manages to repel them using magic. When he returns home safely, he receives letters informing him that he may be expelled from Hogwarts for using magic illegally. He is soon picked up by a group of wizards and taken to the home of his godfather, Sirius Black, which doubles as the headquarters for an organization dedicated to fighting Voldemort called the Order of the Phoenix. Harry learns that Voldemort is rebuilding his army and has a plan to obtain a powerful weapon.

Harry soon faces the hearing for his unauthorized use of magic, but he nearly misses the proceedings due to some underhanded.....

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Before the Prime Minister of Muggles met the new Minister of Magic, he learned that the disaster the media had attributed to a hurricane was actually caused by Death Eaters, possibly accompanied by giants. The war was escalating. Voldemort had tasked Narcissa Malfoy's son Draco with killing Dumbledore (and Professor Snape vowed to help). Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwart's, personally explained to the Dursleys of Privet Drive that the protective spell he had cast over the now 16-year-old Harry Potter would lose its power in a year, when he came of age. The informal games of 2-on-2 Quidditch at the Weasley's home gave way to school preparations: off to London's Diagon Alley to purchase supplies; such as, books, robes, wands, owls and the usual. Harry and his friends found everything changed: the Leaky Cauldron was almost.....

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and last in the Harry Potter series. This novel follows Harry Potter and his two closest friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger on their quest to destroy the evil Lord Voldemort.

During the first six books, Harry and his friends have gathered knowledge of magic in their years at Hogwarts, the school for wizards. Now they are in their last year at Hogwarts and are not planning on returning. They are opting, instead, to go in search of the Horcruxes of Lord Voldemort. Horcruxes each contain some power of Voldemort, and the three believe that by finding and destroying these, they will be able to destroy Voldemort.

During this novel, Voldemort takes over the Ministry of Magic and begins his returned reign over the magical world. Evil prisoners.....
